Surgeon William Burnet

Originally admitted in 1791 as the first Hereditary Member of the New Jersey Society upon the service of his brother, Original Member Ichabod Burnet. Later accepted as a propositus. Born in Newark, NJ on 4 Nov 1754 and died in Newark, NJ on 8 Sep 1799. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as a Surgeon in the 2nd Regiment, Essex County, NJ Militia 17 Feb 1776. Surgeon in the General Hospital of the Continental Army. Medical doctor in Belleville, NJ. Ohio pioneer at Cincinnati, Northwest Territory in 1791. Freemason and member of St. John’s Lodge #2 (now #1); Warrant Master of Nova Caesarea Lodge #10 in NJ. Married Joanna Alling. [Sources: M; H; (98); (C).]
