Professor of Greek and Latin Languages at Colombian University, Washington, DC from 1859. Transferred to the Chair of English Language and Literature 1865. Resigned in 1895 and elected Professor Emeritus. Author of Manual of Anglo-Saxon, 1867. Member of the Society of Colonial Wars. Married Jane Cecilia Kerfoot.
