Served in the Reserve Officers Training Camp Aug to Nov 1917. Graduated as 2nd Lieutenant. 1st Lieutenant Coast Artillery Corps World War I Nov 1917 to Apr 1919. Served as Captain, Major then Colonel in the US Army Coast Artillery in World War II 1942-1946. Decorations: Legion of Merit (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Commander Order of Saints Mauritius and Lazarus of Italy, Chevalier Legion D’Honneur. Yale AB Degree 1915. Colombia LLB Degree 1917, and JD Degree 1969. Chief Legal Advisor to the Allied Commissionin Italy 1944. Attorney and member of the Bar 1917.
