Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Private and Sergeant in Heards Brigade of NJ State Troops. Ensign in the 4th Regiment NJ Line Jan 1777. 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Regiment PA Line 2 May 1777. Wounded at the Battle of Germantown 4 Oct 1777. 1st Lieutenant 2 Jun 1778 and Regimental Paymaster 1 Jun 1779 to 17 May 1780. Regimental Adjutant 17 May 1780. Transferred to the 3rd Regiment PA Line 1 Jan 1783. Regimental Paymaster 22 May 1783. Brevet Captain 30 Sep 1783 and served to 3 Nov 1783. The second Treasurer of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Jersey 1811-1823. Born in Neshaminy, PA on 9 Oct 1759 and died in Princeton, NJ on 3 Feb 1823. 1783-1786 was Clerk in the United States War Office during the War for the Old Northwest. Lieutenant in the US Infantry 12 Aug 1784 and Captain in the 1st US Infantry 29 Sep 1789. 1789-1790 Commandant at Fort Saint Vincent (now Vincennes, IN). RegimentalPaymaster 5 Jun 1790. Major 5 Mar 1792. In the 1st Sub Legion 4 Sep1792 and resigned 27 Nov 1792. Mayor of Princeton, NJ 1818-1823. Member of theNew Jersey Senate and House of Assembly. Colonel of the Somerset County, NJMilitia. Inspector General of the New Jersey Militia 1812. Judge of the CountyCourt. Trustee of the Presbyterian Church in Princeton. Owner of Beatty Housein Princeton in 1816. The house is located at 19 Vandeventer St. Married Mrs.Susanna (Ewing) Ferguson on 21 Feb 1799.
