Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Captain in the 3rd Regiment Pennsylvania Line 5 Jan 1776. Wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Fort Washington 16 Nov 1776 and exchanged May 1778. Last served as Aide-de-Camp to General Anthony Wayne. Appointed by Washington as one of a commission to England to treat regarding the rights of Americans on the high seas. Born in Kirkcudbright, Scotland on 3 Oct 1753 and died 10 Apr 1828. Buried in Philadelphia, PA. Member #44 of the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, elected in Mar 1777. Honorary member of the First Troop 24 Oct 1796. President of the Bank of the United States. President of the Philadelphia Bank. One of the Original Trustees of Stephen Girard’s Bank. Marshal of the US Admiralty Court, 1793-1795. Married Tacy Lukens on 26 Aug 1779.
