Nephew of propositus Garret Van Wagenen. Secretary of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Jersey 1830-1833. Born in Newark, NJ on 16 Mar 1786 and died in Newark, NJ on 4 Nov 1854. Served as Major in the New Jersey Militia. 2nd Lieutenant in the 6th Infantry in 1808 and rose to the rank of Colonel by 1842. Collector of the Port of Newark and Postmaster of Newark 1850. Justice of the Peace in Newark. Probably affiliated with the restored Plume House, built circa 1710, which is now the House of Prayer Rectory on 407 Broad Street in Newark.
