Great grandson of propositus Elias Dayton. Secretary of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Jersey 1867-1875. Treasurer 1875-1881. Assistant Treasurer General of the Society of the Cincinnati 1872-1881. Born in Washington, DC on 6 Jul 1838 and died in New York, NY on 30 Mar 1881. During the Civil War was the private secretary to Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. Also served as Secretary of the Sanitary Commission of Philadelphia which raised money and supplies for the sick and wounded soldiers. Trinity College AB Degree 1856 and MA Degree 1859.
