Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Hay

Represented Original Member. First joined the NY Society and transferred to the NJ Society 4 Jul 1796. He was represented in both the NJ and NY Societies. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Captain in the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment 9 Jan 1776. Major in the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment 5 Oct 1776. Lt. Colonel in the 10th Pennsylvania Regiment 2 Feb 1778. Wounded at the Battle of Stony Point on 16 Jul 1779. Retired from service 17 Jan 1781. Born in Scotland on 17 Nov 1739 and died in Newark, NJ on 27 Nov 1803. Member of the New Jersey State Convention 1787. Member of the New Jersey State Assembly. Judge and Justice. Married Jane Haviland on 2 Jun 1790.
