(3) Great grandnephew of propositus Lewis Howell. Born in Los Angeles, CA on 14 Jul 1916 and died at Rockville, MD on 1 Aug 1999. Enlisted in the US Navy 16 Mar 1934. Ensign in the US Navy 7 Feb 1941. Destroyer officer 1941-1942. Pearl Harbor 7 Dec 1941. Submarine officer 1942-1945 in the Pacific Fleet. Duty at the Navy Department, Washington, DC 1949-1952. Assistant Director US Naval Material Laboratory, New York Navy Shipyard 1953, with rank of Commander. Assignments: Staff of Commander Pacific Area; Offices of the Chief of Naval Operations; Office of the Deputy Director of Research and Engineering, for the Secretary of Defense. Rose to Rear Admiral 1969 and retired 1 Jun 1973. Engagements: Pearl Harbor; Bouganville; Coral Sea; Midway, Gilbert Islands, and 7 submarine patrols. Decorations: Bronze Star Medal (Valor) with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Legion of Merit, CR (Combat Ribbon). US Naval Academy BS Degree 1941. MSc Degree US Navy Post Graduate School 1946-1949. Vice-President of Bradford Computers from 1973 to 1979. Member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. Freemason of Lodge #346. Married Eurith Linthicum Maynard on 6 Aug 1942.
