Began his service in the Revolutionary War as an Ensign in the 2nd Regiment New Jersey on 7 Nov 1775. 2nd Lieutenant on 25 Dec 1775. 1st Lieutenant on 1 Jan 1777. Captain on 1 Dec 1777. Went on Sullivan’s Campaign against the Indians 1779. Transferred to the 1st Regiment New Jersey in Apr 1783. Last served in Cumming’s New Jersey Continental Battalion with the last rank of Captain. Brevet Major 30 Sep 1783. Served to 3 Nov 1783. Born in Sussex County, NJ and died in Hamilton County, OH in 1813. Member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly 1791-1792. Member US Congress from New Jersey 1801-1811. Major General of the New Jersey Militia. Married Margaret Phoebe Stewart on 29 Aug 1772.
