Lieutenant Colonel William De hart

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Major in the 1st Regiment NJ Line 7 Nov 1775. Lieutenant Colonel on 1 Jan 1777. Served at Valley Forge. Lieutenant Colonel in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line 6 Sep 1780. Aide to General George Washington. Resigned from service 20 Nov 1781. Born in Elizabethtown, NJ on 7 Dec 1746 and died in Morristown, NJ on 16 Jun 1801. Attorney in Morristown, NJ and member of the Bar. One of the first Presidents of the Saint Tammany Society in 1789. The Saint Tammany Society was founded in 1786 as a patriotic fraternal organization. It became a political machine by 1800 and supported Anti-Federalist policies. Married Elizabeth Grace Bleecker on 11 Oct 1769.
