Surgeon William Messenger Barnet


Propositus

Surgeon W. Barnet

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Surgeon in the 1st Regiment NJ Line 8 Dec 1775. Under the orders of Elias Dayton he was one of those who manned the shallops and captured the ship ‘Blue Mountain Valley’ on 22 Jan 1776. Surgeon in the General Hospital of the Continental Army from May 1778. Served to Jun 1782. Born in 1723 or 1727 and died in Elizabeth, NJ on 1 Dec 1790. He was a doctor prior to 1759 when he was requested to come to Philadelphia to inoculate persons for small pox. [Sources: M; H; (98); Find A Grave Memorial.]
