Brevet Major General Thomas McCall Cadwalader

Elected an Honorary Member in 1851, Cadwalader was the son of Lambert Cadwalader, who became an eligible propositus following passage of the rule of 1854, admitting descendants of officers who did not join the Society, but would have been eligible to do so. Born in Trenton, NJ on 11 Sep 1795 and died at “Greenwood” in Trenton, NJ on 16 Oct 1873. Deputy Adjutant General of the Hunterdon Brigade of the NJ Militia 2 Jun 1830. Lt Colonel and Aide de Camp to Governor Seeley of New Jersey 10 Apr 1833. Brigadier and Adjutant General of NJ under five administrations beginning 30 Jul 1842, and during the Mexican War. Was sent to Europe by the Governor of New Jersey in 1856 to report on firearms in use there. Resigned 26 Jan 1858 and was made Brevet Major General for meritorious service on 11 Mar 1858. Helped reorganize the First Troop of Philadelphia City Cavalry, under the Militia Act of 1864, as amended in 1867. Princeton AB Degree 1815 and AM Degree 1823. Attorney and member of the Bar. Married Maria Charlotte Gouverneur on 27 Dec 1831.
