Major Sam. Reading

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as 1st Lieutenant in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line 28 Oct 1775. Taken prisoner at Three Rivers, Canada 8 Jun 1776 and exchanged Dec 1776. Captain in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line 1 Jan 1777. Major of the 1st Regiment New Jersey Line 27 Dec 1781. Retained and last served in Cumming’s New Jersey Continental Battalion from Apr 1783. Served to 3 Nov 1783. Born in Amwell, NJ on 23 Nov 1752 and died in 1836 or 1838. Colonel in the New Jersey Militia. Married Sarah Gouverneur.
