Captain Richard Stites

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Captain in Hunt’s Battalion and Harrad’s Brigade of the New Jersey Militia. Aide to General Washington. Born in Elizabethtown, NJ on 8 Nov 1747 and died in New York 16 Sep 1776 age 29 from wounds received at the Battle of Bushwick, Long Island. Buried in Morristown, NJ. BA Degree from Rhode Island College 1769. Brother-in-law of President Manning and in 1766 was the second student matriculated at Rhode Island College. Attorney in Elizabethtown, NJ and member of the Bar 1771. Married 1st Harriet Eliza Duffield. Married 2nd Sarah Thompson about 1765. Married 3rd Sarah Cutler Dennis on 12 May 1776.
