Captain Mahlon Ford

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Ensign in the 3rd Regiment NJ Line 1 May 1777. 2nd Lieutenant 26 Oct 1777. 1st Lieutenant 30 Mar 1780. Transferred to the 1st Regiment NJ Line 1 Jan 1781. Brevet Captain in the 1st Regiment NJ Line. Retained in and last served in Cumming’s New Jersey Continental Battalion from Apr 1783. Served to Nov 1783. Born in Morristown, NJ on 22 Jun 1756 and died in Columbus, OH on 12 or 14 Jun 1820. After the Revolution served as Ensign in the US Infantry Regiment on 12 Aug 1784. Lieutenant in the US Army Artillery Battalion in 17 Mar 1786 to 29 Oct 1789. Captain in the US Army Artillery Battalion 4 Mar 1791. Severely wounded in action with the Miami Indians 4 Nov 1791 at Saint Clair’s Defeat. Captain in the US Army Artillerists and Engineers on 9 May 1794. Major in the 1st Artillerists and Engineers on 7 May 1798. Honorably discharged on 1 Jun 1802. Married Sophia B. Spencer on 31 Aug 1793.
