Brigade Major John Ross
Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Captain in the 3rd Regiment NJ Line 9 Feb 1776. Captain 29 Nov 1776. Major in the 2nd Regiment New Jersey Line 7 Apr 1779. Last served as Brigade Major and Inspector of the New Jersey Brigade Oct 1779. Wounded in the service but continued to serve. Retired from service 1 Jan 1781. Born in Mount Holly, NJ on 2 Apr 1752 and died on 7 Sep 1796 in Burlington County, NJ. Studied medicine under his father, Doctor Alexander Ross. Was a medical practitioner. Colonel in the New Jersey Militia. Appointed Collector of Revenue of Burlington County, NJ in 1792 by President Washington. Married 1st to Mary Brainard on 18 Jul 1778.
