Brevet Captain John Reed

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Ensign in the 4th Regiment NJ Line 17 Feb 1777. 2nd Lieutenant 3 Oct 1777. 1st Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment NJ Line 1 Feb 1779. Served in the Indian Campaign in 1779. Transferred to the 1st Regiment NJ Line 1 Jan 1781. Fought in the Virginia Campaign in 1781. Captain by Brevet. Served to Apr 1783. After the Revolution he fought in the War for the Old Northwest as Captain in the US Army and was killed at St. Clair’s Defeat on 4 Nov 1791. [Sources: M; H; (66); (C).]
