Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Cornet in Lee’s Continental Dragoons of Pulaski’s Legion on 1 Apr 1779. Lieutenant and Regimental Paymaster 1 Feb 1780 and Captain in Mar 1782. Served in Moylan’s 4th Regiment of VA Troops. As a Lieutenant in Colonel Lee’s Legion of Dragoons, was severely wounded in the leg by a saber cut from one of Tarleton’s Dragoons at the Battle of Fort Ninety Six in South Carolina on 10 Jul 1781.
