Captain James Bonnell
Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Captain in the 1st Regiment Sussex County NJ Militia. Ensign in the 1st Regiment NY Line 26 Feb to Dec 1776. 2nd Lieutenant in Spencer’s Additional Continental Regiment Feb 1777. 1st Lieutenant 1 Jan 1778. Regimental Adjutant 1 Sep 1778. Captain 24 Apr 1779. At the close of the war, was in command of the Fort near Brick House in Montague, NJ. Retired from service 1 Jan 1781. Born in Chatham, NJ on 10 Oct 1758 and died in Morristown, NJ in 1814. Married Rhoda or Rosa Burnet. [Sources: M; H; (66); (98); (C).]
