First Lieutenant James Anderson

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line 28 Oct 1775 to 20 Nov 1776. 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Canadian (Hazen’s) Regiment 8 Apr 1777. Taken prisoner at Fort Schuyler on Staten Island 22 Aug 1777. Rejoined his regiment in Aug 1780. Exchanged 22 Dec 1780. Served to Jun 1783. Captain of the 1st Regiment Sussex County, NJ Militia. Born near Freehold, NJ on 17 Sep 1751 and died in 1825. While he was a captive for over four years he studied medicine under a British Doctor. Doctor of medicine and member of the New Jersey Medical Society in 1791. Married Mrs. Helana (Hankinson) Longstreet on 17 Sep 1751. [Sources: M; H; (66); (98); (C)]
