Surgeon Jabez Campfield

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Surgeon in the Continental Army in Boston or Cambridge, MA under General Green. Surgeon in Spencer’s Continental Regiment on 1 Jan 1777. Served under General Sullivan on his expedition in 1779. Surgeon and Senior Surgeon in the Hospital Department of the Continental Army and retired from service on 1 Jan 1781. Enlisted as Surgeon in the 2nd Continental Dragoons 17 Aug 1781 and served to the close of war. Born in Newark, NJ on 24 Dec 1737 and died in Morristown, NJ on 21 May 1821. Captain of the Morris County Squadron, New Jersey Cavalry 1798-1807. Princeton graduate 1759 and MA Degree 1762. Practicing physician in Morristown, NJ. Member of the Medical Society of New Jersey 1773. Surrogate of Morris County, NJ 1784-
