Major General Frederick Frelinghuysen

Born in Raritan, NJ on 13 Apr 1753 and died in Millstone, NJ on 13 Apr 1804. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Captain, Major and Colonel of the NJ Militia 1775-1777, including service in Colonel Charles Stewarts Battalion of Minutemen 15 Feb 1776. Captain of the Eastern Company of Artillery, NJ State Troops 1 Mar 1776. Colonel of the 1st Battalion Somerset County, NJ Militia 28 Feb 1777. Then Major General of the Militia of New Jersey. Fought at the battles of Trenton, Springfield, Elizabethtown, and Monmouth. In the Battle of Trenton was the one that killed the Hessian Commander Rhalle. Princeton graduate 1770 and MA Degree 1773. Attorney and member of the Bar 1774. Member of the New Jersey Provincial Congresses 1775 and 1776. Member of the Continental Congress 1778-1779 and 1782-1783. US District Attorney for New Jersey in 1801. Member of the New Jersey Legislative Council 1782. Member of the New Jersey Legislature 1784 and 1800-1804. Member of the New Jersey Convention to ratify the Constitution in 1787. US Senator from New Jersey 1793-1796. Brigadier General in the Campaign against the Western Indians in 1790. Commander in Chief and Major General of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Troops in 1794 in the Whiskey Rebellion. Princeton Trustee 1802-1804. Married 1st Gertrude Schenck and 2nd Ann Yard.
