Colonel Charles Stewart
Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Colonel in the NJ Militia 1775-1776. Commissary General of Issues on Washington’s staff in the Continental Army 18 Jun 1777 to 24 Jul 1782. Born in Gortlee, Donegal, Ireland on 9 Mar 1729 and died in Flemington, NJ on 24 Jul 1800. Buried in Perryville, NJ. Immigrated to America in 1750. Deputy Surveyor-General for the Province of Pennsylvania. In 1774 was a member of the first New Jersey Convention, which issued a Declaration of Rights Against the Crown. Delegate to the first Provincial Congress of New Jersey 1775. Delegate to the Continental Congress from New Jersey 1784- 1785. Member of the Hibernian Society in 1790. Married Miss Johnston.
