Began his service in the Revolutionary War as 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Regiment NJ Line 23 Nov 1776. 1st Lieutenant 10 Feb 1777. Captain in the 4th Regiment New Jersey Line 12 Nov 1777 and was taken prisoner in a skirmish at Salem, NJ 24 Mar 1778 and exchanged 1 Apr 1781. Resigned from service on 6 Sep 1781.
