First Lieutenant Archibald D. Steel

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as 1st Lieutenant in Thompson’s Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment 25 Jun 1775. Raised a Company in Lancaster County, PA and marched to Boston where his Company served under the command of Benedict Arnold. Wounded and taken prisoner at the Siege of Quebec 31 Dec 1775 and exchanged in Aug 1776. 1st Lieutenant in the 1st Continental Infantry 1 Jan to 31 Dec 1776. Deputy Quartermaster General May 1777 to Oct 1781. Born in Lancaster County, PA in 1741 and died in Philadelphia, PA on 29 Oct 1832. After the Revolution was Military Storekeeper in the US Army 28 Apr 1816. Honorably discharged 1 Jun 1821 with rank of Colonel. Married Jane Gibson in 1775. [Sources: M; H.
