Captain Abraham George Claypoole

Original Member of the PA Society and transferred membership to the NJ Society 4 Jul 1789. Represented by his descendants in the NJ Society. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Ensign in the PA Militia in 1776. Captain-Lieutenant of Patton’s Continental Regiment 15 Feb 1777. Captain 10 Jun 1778. His Regiment was incorporated into the 11th PA on 16 Dec 1778. Transferred to the 3rd Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line on 17 Jan 1781. Served in the New Jersey Campaign. Served in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown. Served at Valley Forge and the Battle of Monmouth. Was on Sullivan’s Indian Campaign in 1779 with the New 11th PA Regiment. Retired from service 1 Jan 1783. Born in Philadelphia in 1756. Died in Chillicothe, OH on 11 Feb 1827. Married 1st Elizabeth Popwell Thompson on 4 Feb 1789. Married 2nd Elizabeth Steele on 28 Nov 1795.
