Meetings of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Jersey

The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Jersey welcomed members and their guests to the Nation’s Capitol over the weekend of October 5th through 7th for the annual fall meeting. The meeting held special significance as it marked the 200th Anniversary of the New Jersey Society’s meeting at which it welcomed fellow Society Member, General Lafayette.

The weekend kicked off on Friday evening at the historic Army and Navy Club, with a new member orientation, followed by cocktail reception and dinner.

On Saturday morning, members held their business meeting at the Society’s Headquarters, the Larz Anderson House. Following luncheon for members and guests, the Society’s Library Director, Thomas G. Lannon, and Museum Collections and Operations Manager Paul Newman, hosted a private exhibit of “Treasures of New Jersey” from the Society’s archives.

The weekend concluded in grand fashion with a formal cocktail reception and dinner at the Cosmos Club. The dinner centered on the awarding of the New Jersey Society’s History Prize. The Prize’s Committee Chairman, Frederic Rogers Kellogg, introduced recipient Mike Duncan, author of Hero of Two Worlds: The Marquis de Lafayette in the Age of Revolution, who gave a compelling talk, focused on Lafayette’s 1824 American tour.
