New York Public Library Executive Committee member 1895-1914. President of the New York Public Library 1911-1914. Trustee of the New York Public Library until his death. It was largely through his efforts that the magnificent library at 42nd Street and Fith Avenue was built. Provided the extension to the Free Public Library of Trenton in 1914. Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Trustee of the Carnegie Institution of Washington and the Carnegie Endowment for Peace. Trustee of Princeton University. Trustee of the New York Zoological Society.
