Brigade Major James Witherspoon

Began his service in the American Revolution as Brigade Major in Maxwell’s Brigade. Aide to Brigadier General Maxwell, then Aide to Brigadier General Nash until 1777. Born 17 Nov 1751 in Scotland. Killed at the Battle of Germantown 4 Oct 1777. Graduate of Princeton in 1770. AM Degree from Princeton 1773. Son of Reverend John Witherspoon, Signer of the declaration of Independence and President of Princeton (College of New Jersey) from 1768.
