Colonel Israel Shreve

Before the Revolutionary War was Colonel of the First Battalion, Gloucester County, NJ Militia. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Lt. Colonel in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line 8 Nov 1775. Colonel 28 Nov 1776. Wounded in the Battle of Brandywine on 11 September 1777. Served at Valley Forge. Served in Northern New York and Canada. Retired from service 31 Jan 1781. Born in Burlington County, NJ on 17 Dec 1739 and died in Fayette County, PA on 14 Dec 1799. Member of the Council of New Jersey. Judge and Justice in New Jersey. Shreveport, Louisiana is named for his son, Captain Henry Miller Shreve. Married 1st Grace Curtis on 27 Feb 1760. Married 2nd in 1799.
