First Lieutenant William Norcross

Born in 1752 and died in Bordentown, NJ on 27 Nov 1803. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Ensign in the 3rd Regiment New Jersey Line in Dec 1775. Regimental Quartermaster 16 Mar 1776 and 2nd Lieutenant 29 Nov 1776. Fought in the Battles of Short Hills; Brandywine; and Germantown. 1st Lieutenant. 4 Jul 1779 was an officer in the Quartermaster Department of the Army, until his resignation. Retired from service on 26 Sep 1780. Served on the City Council of Burlington, NJ in 1788. Dry goods merchant. Judge of Elections in Bordentown from 1796-1799. Postmaster in Bordentown from 1801. On the Township Committee of Bordentown 1802-1803. [Sources: M; H.]
