Captain William Piatt

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Private and Sergeant in the 1st Regiment New Jersey Line Dec 1775 to Aug 1776. 2nd Lieutenant 20 Aug 1776. 1st Lieutenant 15 Jan 1777. Captain 11 Mar 1780. Served to Apr 1783. Born in New Jersey in 1745. Killed in battle by the Miami Indians at St. Clair’s Defeat on 4 Nov 1791 in what is now Darke County, OH in the War for the Old Northwest. Married Sarah Smith. [Sources: M; H; (66); (98); (C).]
