Lieutenant in the US Army Artillery Battalion in 17 Mar 1786 to 29 Oct 1789. Captain in the US Army Artillery Battalion 4 Mar 1791. Severely wounded in action with the Miami Indians 4 Nov 1791 at Saint Clair’s Defeat. Captain in the US Army Artillerists and Engineers on 9 May 1794. Major in the 1st Artillerists and Engineers on 7 May 1798. Honorably discharged on 1 Jun 1802. Married Sophia B. Spencer on 31 Aug 1793.
