Brevet Captain Luther Halsey

Represented Original Member 1783. First joined the NJ Society and then the NY Society in 1801. Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Sergeant in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line in Nov 1775. Regimental Adjutant in the 2nd Regiment NJ Line 28 Nov 1776 and Lieutenant 9 Nov 1777. Retained in and last served in Cumming’s New Jersey Continental Battalion from Apr 1783. Served to 3 Nov 1783. Brevet Captain 30 Sep 1783. Born in Morristown, New Jersey on 10 May 1758 and died in Cincinnati, OH on 28 Feb 1830. Attended Princeton 1775, DD and LLD Degrees. In charge of the newly opened Academy at Elizabeth, NJ in the English Department in 1789. Principal of the Academy at Schenectedy, NY in 1792, which became Union College in 1795. Married 1st Sarah Foster. Married 2nd Damaris Foster. Married 3rd Abigail Foster about 1793.
