Colonel Lambert Cadwalader

A signer of the Non-Importation Agreement of 1765 in response to the Stamp Act of 1765. Elected to the Provincial Assembly of PA in 1774. Appointed to the Committee of Correspondence in Philadelphia in 1774. Was a member of the PA Colonial Assembly in 1775. Delegate to the PA State Constitutional Convention in 1776. Began his service in the Revolutionary War in 1775 as a Captain in the Militia of Philadelphia known as “The Greens”. Was Lt. Colonel in the 3rd Battalion PA Line 4 Jan 1776. Went to New York to help build its defenses. Assisted in the construction of Fort Washington. Taken prisoner at the Battle of Fort Washington 16 Nov 1776. Colonel in the 4th Regiment PA Line and was considered a prisoner on parole until he resigned from service 22 Jan 1779. Born in Trenton, NJ in Dec 1742 and died in Trenton, NJ on 13 Sep 1823. Attended Dr. Allison’s Academy in Philadelphia. Also attended City College now the University of Pennsylvania. From 1784 to 1787 was a Delegate to the Continental Congress. Member of the US Congress 1789-1791 and 1793-1795. Went into business with his brother John and was one of the leading merchants in Pennsylvania by the mid-1770’s. Lived on his estate near Trenton called “Greenwood’. Married Mary McCall in 1793.
