Grandson of propositus Matthias Ogden. Assistant Secretary of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Jersey 1873-1875 and Secretary 1875-1891. Born in Seacombe, England on 20 Apr 1839 and died in New York, NY on 30 Jan 1891. Educated abroad. Deputy US Consul in Bristol, England 1855-1858. Came to the United States in 1858. Converted to the Roman Catholic faith. Was a missionary to South Africa and labored several years with Bishop Colenso of Natal. At the close of the US Civil War, returned to the United States and engaged in the insurance business. Worked in succession for: Niagara; Hanover; and German-American Fire Insurance Company, where he was a clerk. Member of the Saint Tammany Society.
