Ensign Cornelius Riker Sedam

Ensign Cornelius Sedam

Began his service in the Revolutionary War as Ensign in the NJ Militia in 1775 at age 16. Ensign in the 1st Regiment New Jersey Line 30 May 1782. Served to Apr 1783. Born in Holland in 1759. Died in Sedamsville, OH on 9 May 1823. After the Revolution he served as Ensign in the US Infantry Regiment 29 Sep 1789. Lieutenant 22 Oct 1790. Captain in the 1st US Infantry 23 Apr 1792 and assigned to the 1st Sub Legion 4 Sep 1792. Stationed at Fort Harmar then Fort Finney, then Fort Washington in Cincinnati. Fought with distinction at St. Clair’s Defeat. Fought at General Wayne’s victory at Fallen Timbers in 1796. Honorably discharged 1 Sep 1796. Served in the War of 1812 as Colonel.
